About Workshop:
Introduction of Alchemy of the Extraordinary
Step into the world of David Glass’s Alchemy of the Extraordinary, a powerful approach to Devised Theatre and Creative Practice that has inspired artists and companies across the globe. In just two hours, internationally renowned theatre maker David Glass will introduce his Five-Stage Creative Practice (Preparation, Origination, Organisation, Realisation, Reflection) and explore the creative reservoirs of the Child, Adolescent, and Elder that live within us all. This open session invites theatre makers, dancers, writers, and artists to experience a taste of Glass’s transformative, provocative, and skill-based framework – a practice that helps you make art about things that matter.
Concurrently, David will give a vivid illustrated talk, weaving together stories, images, and video clips from his 45 years of theatre-making across 75 countries. From groundbreaking physical theatre productions (Gormenghast, Bleak House, Fahrenheit 451) to global community projects like the Lost Child Project, Glass reflects on a lifetime devoted to creating theatre that is imaginative, political, and deeply human.

David Glass
David Glass is a pioneering director, performer, teacher, and writer who has influenced generations of artists worldwide. Founder of the David Glass Ensemble in 1990, his work spans physical and devised theatre, education, and applied practice, producing over 150 works internationally. His Alchemy of the Extraordinary framework is taught and practiced around the globe, shaping the next generation of theatre makers, educators, and changemakers.
In 1998, at the International Theatre Invitational Exhibition hosted by the Central Academy of Theatre China, the second instalment of the trilogy The Lost Children – Hansel Gretel: The Machine – performed by David Glass team, elicited a profound response from the audience. Those who witnessed the performance still describe their experience as ‘shocking’ and ‘moving’ today. The director, David Glass, is an internationally acclaimed theatre artist.

About Residency：
"Elsewhere Residency" is a cross-disciplinary artist-in-residence program that invites creators from diverse backgrounds—artists, writers, musicians, researchers, and beyond—to immerse themselves in specific locales. Rooted in the natural and cultural environments of each place, the program fosters multifaceted fieldwork, experimental creation, and cross-boundary dialogue. By transcending the limits of disciplines and modes of expression, the project seeks to rekindle the act of seeing through on-site observation, serendipitous encounters, and collaborative reinvention. Ultimately, it aspires to explore freer, more open possibilities for art within contemporary contexts.
