We are delighted to announce the opening of applications for the third season of the "Elsewhere Culture" Artist Residency Program: "The Taste of Nagano". In 2025,we are inviting contemporary artists, experimental creators, and interdisciplinary researchers from around the world to delve into Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and for a unique artistic journey.  



2025年，“别处文化”艺术家驻地项目第三期——“长野之味”正式开启招募！我们邀请全球的当代艺术家、实验性创作者、跨学科研究者，深入日本长野县白马村，开启一场艺术之旅。





















Residency Theme: The Taste of Nagano

 

Nagano Prefecture, a hidden land enveloped by mountains, is both a sanctuary of nature and a crossroads of culture. Nestled at the foot of the Japanese Alps, Hakuba Villageoffers a unique blend of Alpine landscapes and a lifestyle that intertwines tradition and modernity, providing fertile ground for experimental and boundary-pushing artisticcreation.  



We encourage participants to explore the existing boundaries of contemporary art through cross-media and interdisciplinary practices. “The Taste of Nagano" residency aims to re-examine the complex relationships between art and nature, humanityand the environment. Through in-depth research and sensory engagement with the region’sculture, we invite artists to reflect on those themes and explore new possibilities for art in the contemporary context. 





驻地主题：长野之味



长野县，一个被群山环绕的隐秘之地，既是自然的庇护所，也是文化的交汇点。白马村，坐落于阿尔卑斯山脉脚下，以其独特的阿尔卑斯山脉景观和传统与现代交织的生活方式，为实验性创作提供了丰富的土壤。



我们鼓励参与者以跨媒介、跨学科的实践方式探索当代艺术的既有的边界。“长野之味”试图通过对地域文化的深度研究与感知，重新审视艺术与自然、人与环境之间的复杂关系，探索艺术在当代语境下新的可能性。  




 















Open Call (Planned recruitment of 4–6 creators)

- Contemporary artists  

- Experimental creators (sound, body, performance, or any medium)  

- Interdisciplinary researchers  

- Writers, curators  

- Other creators exploring the boundaries of art  



Residency Period

May–July 2025  

(Residency duration: minimum 1 month, maximum 3 months)  



Residency Conditions

-Accommodation and Fees: Free accommodation provided by the program. Other living, travel, and creation expenses are self-funded.  

-Visa and Insurance: Participants are responsible for obtaining their own visas and purchasing personal insurance.  

-Residency Outcomes: At the conclusion of the residency, the program will organize a local experimental group exhibition, performance, or cross-disciplinary event to showcase the artists' creations.

驻地条件

- 住宿及费用：项目方负责免费提供住宿。其他生活、交通及创作等费用需自理。 

- 签证及保险：参与者需自行办理签证并购买人身保险。 

- 驻地成果：驻地结束时，项目方负责在本地组织一次实验性群展、表演或跨领域活动，展示艺术家的创作成果。

1. Submit a personal resume and portfolio, including at least 3–5 representative works (images, videos, text, or other formats), along with a brief description of previous creative experiences and achievements.
